DROP THE BEAT: Enhancing Student Connectivity through AR and Music

OVERVIEW:
Drop the Beat is an innovative project aimed at fostering meaningful relationships among remote and in-person students within a university setting. The project leverages augmented reality (AR) to create immersive experiences that facilitate social bonding through the universal language of music. Our vision is to impact the social dynamics of hybrid education positively, providing a platform where students can connect and interact on a deeper level.
What We Did:
- Personalized Music Selection: Users choose their own beats, making each interaction unique and personalized. This allows students to experience the musical preferences of their peers.
- AR Interaction: The AR experience enhances the sense of connection by overlaying virtual elements onto the physical world, making interactions more engaging and immersive.
- Connection Options: After the AR interaction, students are prompted to connect via social media or email, increasing the likelihood of continued interaction.
- Prototype Development: We created an initial prototype with room for improvement in both AR capabilities and the scope of the concept, including potential expansions to other cultural elements.

Conclusion:
Drop the Beat successfully demonstrates the potential of using AR and music to foster social connections among students. While the initial prototype lays a strong foundation, there is ample room for technical enhancements and conceptual expansions. Future iterations could incorporate more advanced location tracking, immersive virtual elements, and broadened content categories, such as cultural artifacts, to further enrich the student interaction experience.​​​​​​​
