3D Projection Mapping for STEAM Educational Outreach
The University of Texas at El Paso, 2016
------------------------------------------
During my time at the Society for Hispanic and Professional Engineers (SHPE) in college, I had the privilege of working on a series of 3D projection mapping projects aimed at promoting STEAM education among middle school students. These indoor projection mapping displays were designed to captivate young minds and spark their interest in the fascinating world of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
Each display featured unique themes tailored to resonate with students. From swinging through the skyscrapers of New York City with Spider-Man to training alongside the X-Men, and even traveling to London to witness the iconic Big Ben, these themes were carefully chosen to illustrate the endless possibilities of merging art and technology.

Interactive STEAM Sections:
While the 3D projection mapping displays themselves were not interactive, the overall experience included various interactive sections where students could engage directly with STEAM concepts. These sections featured activities such as simple circuit simulations, where students could learn the basics of electrical engineering, and using a 3D printer to bring their designs to life, showcasing the practical applications of technology and engineering.
One of the most rewarding aspects of these projects was seeing the excitement and curiosity they sparked in the students. By showcasing how technology can bring artistic visions to life, we aimed to inspire the next generation of innovators to pursue careers in STEAM fields.

Coordination and Logistics:
As part of the team, I also played a crucial role in coordinating the logistics of bringing students to the college campus. This involved organizing transportation, ensuring the smooth operation of the event, and providing a welcoming and engaging environment for the students. Additionally, I coordinated volunteers at different stations, ensuring each interactive opportunity was well-staffed and ran smoothly.
Featured Projections:
Spider-Man in NYC - This display transported students to the bustling streets of New York City, where they could follow Spider-Man as he swing between skyscrapers.
Big Ben, London - This display took students on a virtual trip to London, highlighting the engineering marvel of Big Ben.
X-Men Training Simulator - In this immersive experience, students joined the X-Men in their training sessions.

The Magic of Merging Art and Technology
These projects were more than just educational tools; they were a testament to the power of combining art and technology. By creating immersive experiences that engaged multiple senses, we were able to make learning both fun and impactful. The students walked away with a deeper appreciation for STEAM fields and a newfound excitement for what the future could hold.
If you’d like to learn more about these projects or explore other innovative works I've been involved in, feel free to reach out. I’m always excited to discuss creative technology solutions and how they can inspire and educate.
